Autochorisgender is a gender identity in which a person experiences a disconnect between themselves and the concept of gender, yet still relates to gender on an abstract, emotional, or aesthetic level. Someone who identifies as autochorisgender may not feel a personal connection to having a gender, but they can still appreciate gendered traits, roles, or expressions from a distance.

The term autochorisgender comes from the Greek prefix “auto-” meaning “self,” and “choris” meaning “separate” or “apart.” It was coined to describe individuals who experience a separation between their sense of self and the concept of gender.
Autochorisgender gained traction in online LGBTQIA+ spaces, particularly among those who wanted to articulate feelings of detachment from gender identity while still acknowledging gender as a concept they understand or appreciate.
Autochorisgender expands the conversation around gender by highlighting that not everyone experiences gender as a personal, intrinsic trait. For some, gender exists as an idea they can recognize but not internalize. This perspective challenges the assumption that everyone must have a gender identity tied to who they are.
Supporting autochorisgender individuals means respecting their experiences and avoiding forcing gendered labels or roles onto them. This identity validates the idea that gender can be external, distant, or even irrelevant—and that’s just as valid as any other way of experiencing it.
Agender – A gender identity defined by the absence of gender. Autochorisgender may overlap but is distinguished by its abstract appreciation of gender concepts.
Gendervoid – A sense of genderlessness or a “void” where gender would typically be. Autochorisgender differs in that it still acknowledges gender as meaningful, just not personal.

Aesthetic Gender – A gender identity rooted in personal aesthetics or appreciation for certain gender traits, even if not personally identified with.
Nonbinary – A broad term for identities outside the male-female binary. Autochorisgender may fall under this umbrella but is distinct in its unique detachment.
